Writing is something we return to after life has its way with us and then, just as quickly, recedes into the background. Writing is always present, much like the sound of the Pacific crashing against the cliffs near the Palisades.
I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
I heard a definition once: Happiness is health and a short memory! I wish I’d invented it, because it is very true.
